Since 2010 I have been working with Google as a designer on next-generation Android. I made the decision to end okdeluxe as a commercial entity since the opportunity to join Google and Android was too good to pass. I’ve kept the site alive (and will keep doing so) since it has both sentimental value but […]

Now that Tour de France 2010 is well on it’s way I’ve tweaked the app to now show this years data. Since last post I’ve also added some little tweaks to indicate the profile of each stage - most of the stages are insignificant at this size but you can clearly see the Alps (visible […]

Tour de France 2010 is about to start and I wanted to share a (work in progress) info visualisation project I’ve been working on (the data used below are the results from TDF 2009).In ‘le grande’ race, there’s a tendency to focus on the top riders, even sometimes only on the top 10-15 riders, and […]

When I first started writing generative graphics code as a student, I spent hours trying to decipher existing work, I wanted to understand how certain mechanics were built, simple things like attractions, avoidance, movement along a curve, simple physics… etc. The list seems endless and I have from time to time found myself back in the mindset […]

In the fall 2010 the ‘Form and Code’ book will be published, the list of contributors are pretty impressive and my collaborate project with Enrico Bravi and Paolo Palma, the ORTHO-TYPE typography software, is featured in it. Exciting.
See the full list of contributors on the book website.

I’ve spent a bit more time with the tangled experiment. I made the switch from Processing’s built-in DXF exporter to using Nervous System’s Obj Exporter - The FBX library is good but when importing the Processing-generated geometry into Modo, each triangle is a separate entity which makes it difficult to perform any Modo-specific tasks on […]

Following the experiments in the previous blog post, here’s another round of renderings made using Processing to generate the shape and Modo to render the final images.

This evening I found some time to experiment a bit with some Processing bits that’s been collecting dust in my sketchbook for ages: Spherical ribbons, DXF exports and rendering models in Luxology Modo. Oh my.
First I simply let the ribbons flow around the sphere with long tails….
The output seemed a bit sterile and boring so […]

I’ve been working with an amazing new client for the past couple of months - working late last night, I really ought to either a) get some sleep or b) debug my app… but, somehow I ended up writing a small processing app in eclipse using the awesome proclipsing. It’s one of those experiments that […]

The new year is now 8 days old and I’m (very) late in the season-greetings tradition… Nevertheless: Happy New Year/Decade! 2009 was amazing and 2010 already looks to be just as exciting.
I’ve thrown together a quick generative piece that has been living in my sketchbook for far too long. It is a simple particle system […]
